MOHAP CPD Requirements for Healthcare Professionals (2026)

Updated February 2026

Filter by your profession:

Your Requirements at a Glance

Healthcare professionals licensed under MOHAP must complete annual CPD to maintain their license. MOHAP covers four northern emirates: Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. Sharjah is NOT under MOHAP — it has its own authority (SHA). Physicians and dentists require 40 hours per year, with a minimum of 50% from Category 1 (accredited) activities. Nurses and pharmacists require 20 hours. Allied health professionals require 10 hours. MOHAP provides a grace period for late renewal (with applicable fees — confirm current terms with MOHAP). Requirements per MOHAP Circular (270) of 2014.

Understanding Category 1 and Category 2

Per Circular (270) of 2014, MOHAP uses the same Category 1/2 split as DOH: at least 50% Category 1, up to 50% Category 2.

MOHAP uses Category 1/2 (same as DOH) — 50% minimum Category 1 required

Category 1 — Formal Activities

Must be accredited by MOHAP or a recognised accreditation body. Requires defined learning objectives, structured training, and certification.

  • Accredited conferences and workshops
  • Accredited online courses (synchronous or asynchronous)
  • Academic coursework and formal study programmes
  • Residency and fellowship enrolment
  • Credit-bearing micro-credentials

Category 2 — Non-Formal Activities

Self-directed activities with learning value. Do NOT require formal accreditation. Maximum 50% of total CPD can be Category 2.

  • Self-directed journal reading
  • Peer review of academic manuscripts
  • Teaching or lecturing in formal CPD activities
  • Healthcare volunteering and outreach
  • Specialty board certification
  • Peer-reviewed publications (10 credits each, max 20/cycle)
Important: Routine clinical duties — ward rounds, case reviews, internal meetings — do not qualify for either category. Category 1/2 is specific to MOHAP, DOH, and SHA. If you hold a DHA or DHCC license, those authorities use different classification systems.

Emirates Covered by MOHAP

MOHAP is the federal health authority for the four northern emirates. Your CPD obligations, submission portal, and regulatory contact all route through MOHAP if your license was issued by any of these emirates:

Ajman

Ras Al Khaimah

Fujairah

Umm Al Quwain

Sharjah is NOT under MOHAP. Sharjah has its own independent regulator — the Sharjah Health Authority (SHA), established by Emiri Decree No. 12 of 2010. If you are licensed in Sharjah, your CPD requirements and submission portal are governed by SHA, not MOHAP. The Sharjah Healthcare City (SHCC) free zone is also under SHA.

MOHAP covers Ajman, RAK, Fujairah, and UAQ only — NOT Sharjah

See SHA guide for Sharjah

Note: Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah each have local health departments, but professional licensing runs through MOHAP as the federal authority for these emirates.

Credit Multipliers

MOHAP follows the Unified PQR baseline for credit calculations. Some activities earn enhanced credit; others are capped:

Credit rules per Unified PQR (April 2025) and MOHAP Circular (270) of 2014. Always verify with MOHAP for the latest credit calculation rules.

MOHAP-Specific Rules

BLS/ACLS Exclusion

BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS are mandatory licensing prerequisites for MOHAP-licensed professionals. These life support certifications do not count toward elective CPD hour totals. You must maintain them as separate licensing requirements.

No Confirmed Online Cap

MOHAP Circular (270) of 2014 does not specify a maximum percentage of CPD that can be completed online. Unlike DHCC (which caps online at 50%), no online percentage limit has been identified in MOHAP’s regulations as of February 2026. However, unaccredited online learning still counts as Category 2 and is subject to the 50% Category 2 cap.

Grace Period for Late Renewal

MOHAP provides a grace period following license expiration. Based on available regulatory documentation, this is approximately 30 days — during which renewal is still possible but late fees apply. Practicing after license expiration without renewal is a regulatory violation. Confirm the current grace period and fee structure directly with MOHAP (mohap.gov.ae) as terms may be updated.

30-day grace period after license expiration for renewal

Maharati Platform (Unconfirmed)

MOHAP operates the Maharati (Healthcare Training & Development Center) platform, which provides federal training and development programmes for healthcare professionals. It is possible that certain Maharati modules are mandatory for MOHAP-licensed professionals, in addition to standard CPD hour requirements. This has not been confirmed from primary regulatory sources. Check mohap.gov.ae for current Maharati requirements specific to your profession.

No Confirmed Carry-Over

No carry-over policy has been identified in MOHAP’s CPD circular. Plan your CPD activities to meet each year’s requirement independently. Surplus hours from one cycle should not be relied upon to offset a shortfall in the next.

Tracking MOHAP Northern Emirates compliance automatically

Tracking CPD requirements across categories, emirates, and deadlines is time-consuming. Provsure automates it — upload certificates and we handle categorisation, gap analysis, and renewal alerts.

How to Submit CPD Hours to MOHAP

  1. 1Log in to the MOHAP eServices portal at mohap.gov.ae.
  2. 2Navigate to the Healthcare Professional Licensing section.
  3. 3Upload each certificate with: course name, date of completion, credit hours, and accreditation body.
  4. 4Allow processing time for MOHAP review and approval.
  5. 5Keep original certificates for audit purposes — MOHAP may request them at any time.
  6. 6If you use the Maharati platform, check whether any mandatory modules must be completed before renewal.

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming Sharjah is under MOHAP — Sharjah professionals are regulated by SHA, not MOHAP.
  • Counting BLS/ACLS hours toward CPD — no MOHAP policy identified, but Provsure conservatively excludes them (consistent with DOH and DHCC).
  • Exceeding the 50% Category 2 cap — e.g., submitting 30 hours of journal reading against a 40-hour requirement.
  • Assuming unaccredited online courses count as Category 1 — only accredited e-learning qualifies.
  • Waiting until license expiry to start CPD — plan ahead to avoid grace period fees or suspension.
  • Not keeping original certificates for audit — maintain a portfolio of all CPD activities.
  • Assuming MOHAP and DOH have the same submission portal — MOHAP uses mohap.gov.ae, not TAMM.
  • Ignoring the Maharati platform — check whether any federal training modules are required for your profession.
